At Engelsholm the student’s programs are divided in the student’s primary subject and humanities/social studies. Students choose a main subject and follow the humanities/social studies course.
You can download our weekly schedule here: Weekly schedule, or by clicking the image on the left.
We offer six main subjects all on a high level:
There are 16 lessons of teaching and studio time in the main subject each week. Classes are held in the school’s large well-equipped studios situated in the old farm buildings and barns near the castle. The studios are all well equipped with tools, machines, equipment and instruments and they are open for working 24 hours a day!
The Humanities/Social Studies courses are in the fields of personal identity, philosophy, history and philosophical subjects.
They put life, the times, society and art up for debate.
These studies help to put your life and your approach to your art in perspective and this is an opportunity to learn more about your self, society, about the times, the political world and about visual expressions- helping you express your self artistically, politically and verbally.
Humanities/Social studies
Existence
Teacher: Christian Lyngsø
Is there a connection between art and the meaning of life? Artistic expression does not just appear from thin air but comes through a continuous dialog with our thoughts. Today we do not have especially religious associations in art- but painting as an art form materialized as alter image paintings of religious motifs. The Christian religion gave birth to our culture with handcrafts, painting and architecture. In the art-world we expect that art has an underlying meaning or as artist Per Kirkeby expresses it “ A picture without intellectual foundation is nothing.” Looking at examples of works by amongst others Michael Kvium, Per Kirkeby, Arne Haugen Sørensen and Pablo Picasso we will attempt to get a grip on the great questions of life.
Life Drawing with Croquis
Drawing from a model standing in short and long posses is one of the fundamental and classical drawing exercises. The most useful skill acquired with Croquis drawing is the ability to see forms and shapes. That is why Croquis is the most enriching practice that helps to train confidence and routine, and that can be applied to other artistic expressions.
Choir
Teacher: Jakob Bonderup
Everyone has a voice and therefore have the possibility to develop their selves in music. If you have the courage you can take the plunge and participate in the Engelsholm Rhythmic Choir, for men and woman. We start with well and less known numbers from pop, soul, and rock styles just to get our voices warmed up. We hope we will harmonize well but the most important thing is to enjoy the singing.
