Electronic Music

Mix and remix, program, produce, sample and filter. Get lost in the digital universe of sound. Th epossibilities are manyfold, and they begin with your work with the music.

The most important aspect of Electronic Music at Engelsholm is not, how much you have produces previously. The most important aspect is, that you are ready and eager to develop your music. Ready to let yourself be surprised by possibilities and expressions that you didn't know of beforehand. Ready to try something new.

All genre preferences, like noise, electronica, techno/house, hiphop, drum’n’bass, dub, triphop or sound-installations are welcomed. the most important thing is that you arrive with an open mind.

Engelsholm offers a creative environment, where you will always be able to find partners for artistic collaborations. That goes for the other music students, ready to work with you on compositions and productions. It also goes for the other art students, ready to work with you on installations, performances etc.

In an environment such as the one found at Engelsholm, bursting with creativity and energy, your imagination is the only limit for the possible uses of your creative outcome.
The equipment at Engelsholm offers access to Apple Logic, Ableton Live and Reason, but you are encouraged to bring your own computer with the software that you are used to working with, and that you might be going to continue using after your stay.

You are welcome to use the school's beautiful vintage instruments in your productions (fender rhodes, würlitzer, hammond etc.). You can also explore our growing collection of vinyl LPs for that particular sample, youøve been looking for. Engelsholm offers 16 lessons a week in the main subject.

Engelsholm is frequently visited by Danish and international electronic musicians. Murcof, Goodiepal, Bjørn Svin and Rumpistol have played at the school. The Electronic Music department works together with the electronic educations at the Jutland Academy of Music in Århus and the VMK - Academy of Music and Music Communication in Esbjerg.

The 2010 Fall semester offers many exciting topics:

Alternative Audio sources: Björk, Matmos and many others rely heavily on the sampling of sounds, that are not meant to be music. It can be trains and traffic, kitchen tools, natural sounds and much more. We make music without musical instruments.

Live - The electronics as an instrument: Getting started as a music performer, live on stage. You get to build your own live setup, practicing your performance and playing concerts.

Remix: We cooperate with several new interesting names on the Danish music scene, and it gives you the chance to test yourself by as a remixer on published material. Previously we’ve remixed “180 Grader Virvar” and “Altmodisch”, with so much luck that some of the material ended up on the bands own publications.

Synthetics - Max MSP: we dive into the synthesizer, and dig in to oscillators, filters, LFOs and envelopes. And now we're at the “nerdish”: there will be an opportunity to play with Max MSP - the digital counterpart to the modular synthesizer.

Soundtrack: we are to bring sound to motion pictures. The sound has huge impact on how film is perceived, and we must explore, try it your self. Along the way we get visits from people who work professionally in film composition.
Songtronica: We team up with songwriter bar to create new tracks that blend traditional songwriting with electronic music focusing on the sound and production.

Alongside all this, you practice your mixing skills and expand your understanding of sound and technique. Every Thursday at Electronic Music is "geek Thursday" where we go in depth with a technical subject.

Electronic music at Engelsholm folk high school is in close contact with important artists from the Danish electronic music scene.
In recent years we have been visited by Bjørn Svin, Thomas Knak, Goodiepal, Rumpistol and others. We have established cooperation with the Electronic Music Academies: DIEM in Aarhus and Tonespace in Esbjerg.
In autumn 2010, you will meet established artists such as Spejderrobot, Emil de Waal, Carsten Dahl, Torben Ulrich, Søren Kjærgaard, Jacob Groth etc.
Permanent teacher: David Mondrup (4526 841432)
