Painting

Painting is one of the main subjects at Engelsholm Folk High School, and it gives you the opportunity to explore and experiment in the magical world of visual arts – whether you're a beginner or practiced.

The aim is to enhance your personal expression and understanding of shape and colour. The challenge is to open up to new impressions and to break with conventional ways of thinking and acting within the visual arts field.

We work in three well-equipped studios: The Painting Hall, the screen printing studio and the graphics / drawing studio.

In Painting we work in the studios, in a work form that consists of a combination of presentations, based on examples from art history, tasks, discussions and dialogue, and personal guidance. We go through many different techniques, in both painting and graphics, such as colour theory, composition, different painting techniques, screen printing, and photo printing. The work is often project-oriented and many different techniques and expressions are in play simultaneously.

The work is conducted in a creative and inspiring workshop environment where the artistic development and dialogue have the best conditions. We want to give you an understanding of contemporary art through both practical and theoretical work. We strengthen your knowledge of materials and workmanship skills, while giving you a basic knowledge of both historical and contemporary art.

To achieve a new understanding and acquire a strong expression requires time – therefore, Engelsholm offers 16 weekly lessons.

Tuition is based on your level of ambition: You have the opportunity to determine whether a stay at Engelsholm should prepare you to apply for Art Academy, maybe make you able to exhibit at censored exhibitions – or primarily should serve as a development of a personal passion.
