The Glass departement gives you the opportunity to work with both the sculptural glass and the manufacture of unique items for everyday use.
There will be opportunity to meet professional glass artists, either as a guest teachers / lecturers or by visiting glass artists like for example Marianne Buus, Ned Cantrell, Steffen Dam, Tobias Møhl, Stig Persson and many others.
In addition, you will continuously be presented with works by Danish and international glass artists, either through presentations by the teacher or by trips to glass museums or galleries.
Glass Sculpture: experimenting with different kinds of castings, including Cire-perdue, where you work with wax, and burn it out - and Paté the Verre, which include working with fine crushed glass.
Working with sculpture could also include other materials such as wood, iron, concrete, plaster, scrap a.o.
Glass Unika: We focus on the production of unique items for everyday use such as dishes, bowls etc.
There is also an opportunity to work with screenprinting on glass.
Working with unika has a strong emphasis on composition: idea-sketches, designs and choice of colours.
While working with glass sculpture, you will be introduced to various ways of handling glass: sandblasting, engraving, polishing, grinding, etc.
The history of Glass arts, burning theory, studying materials programming and operating the ovens will be reviewed.
We’ll cast glass in every week.
Plus you have the possibility of the following:
Week 34: Introduction to casting
Week 35: Introduction to fusing / slumping
Week 36-37: Painting, glass and ceramics (common project) Screenprint
Week 38-39: Casting of bas reliefs and sculptures in glass
Week 41-42: Fusing of Murini and edge fusing
Week 43-44: screen print on glass
Week 45/46: Casting and mixed media, glass put together with other materials, preparation for a project in the subsequent project weeks.
Week 47-49: Project Weeks
You will learn to shape molten hot glass with a blast of air from your lungs; into a drinking glass, a bowl or a sculpture.
You will be divided into a group of beginners and a group of experienced blowers, and get a good mix of technique, craft training and creative activities.
You will learn traditional Scandinavian and Italian techniques for the manufacture of utilitarian objects and you will learn about the operation of a glass workshop, glass history and physics.
