GÆSTEUNDERVISER
Albert Sanz
His sound is a seamless blend of tradition and innovation, characterized by its profound lyricism, rhythmic vitality, and inventive spirit. His music consistently offers listeners moments of luminous beauty. Sanz’s piano has been central to landmark albums such as “En la imaginación” (by Silvia Pérez Cruz and Javier Colina), “El paradís de les paraules” (by Carles Dénia), and his own “O que será” (featuring Al Foster and Javier Colina). On this latter project, he reinterprets the songbooks of Cuba, Spain, and Brazil through a uniquely personal jazz lens.
Driven by a restless creative spirit and a desire to express himself beyond the piano, Sanz has fully embraced the role of composer and singer-songwriter on his two most recent albums. “La espuma del mar” features fellow travelers like Javier Colina and Jorge Rossy, with special appearances by Silvia Pérez Cruz and Antonio Serrano. His latest work, “Cuando recordar no pueda,” was recorded in Copenhagen with Martin Andersen, Anders AC Christensen, and the voice and cello of Sara Dowling.
As a composer, he “seems to delight in the unexpected. His melodies move in utterly charming shapes, with enough harmonic activity to challenge the improviser and attractive tunes to draw in the listener” (All About Jazz NY).
As an accompanist, “Sanz seems happy to inhabit the shadows, to provide others with the most elegant support they could possibly dream of: delicate comping, consummate punctuation” (Sebastian Scotney, LondonJazzNews). His extensive touring and recording credits include collaborations with the bands of Kurt Rosenwinkel, Silvia Pérez Cruz & Javier Colina, Jorge Rossy, Guillermo Klein, Perico Sambeat, Jorge Pardo, and Antonio Serrano, among many others
