From jazz to soul with singer and pianist Søren Baun

Søren Baun er som pianist, sanger, sangskriver og arrangør en ener på danske musikscene kendt for sin egen genrebrydende lyd. Med et fundament i jazzen bevæger han sig i stilarter som soul, r&b, funk, gospel, brasil og pop.

Denne brede musikalske palet vil være udgangspunktet for dette hold, farvet af hvem du er, dit instrument, hvor du står og er på vej hen på din musikalske rejse. Vi vil lære forskellige sange fra Søren Baun’s repertoire og arbejde med aspekter som sammenspil, det åbne kontra det arrangerede, de lækre akkorder, improvisation, dynamik, sound, det fede groove med mere. Indstudering vil foregå efter noder/becifringer og på gehør.

BIO

Søren Baun was born in Copenhagen and grew up in an apartment with singing parents, a piano and Steely Dan, EW&F and The Beatles on the record player. Later he fell in love with the music of Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers, and not least Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and the infinite world of jazz.

He has studied with Jacob Christoffersen and Kenny Werner, and has a pianist master degree from The Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.

With his upbeat solo album ”Beginnings” from 2024, he is reaching out to those who hunger for warm handplayed soulful music in the digital age. He is also known for his work as bandleader of ‘Acoustic Lounge’, with his modern jazz interpretations of timeless classics by artists as wide ranging as Jobim, Sting, Cole Porter and Pharrell amassing 3m+ streams. In addition he has released music with Baun On Beatles, arranged and toured for a decade with the vocal jazz ensemble Touché, worked as a singer and topliner for Music for Dreams by Kenneth Bager, and worked alongside some of the finest names in Danish jazz including Mathias Heise, Thomas Fonnesbæk, Benjamin Koppel and Jakob Dinesen just to name a few.
